A European cast aluminum product manufacturer needed a customized solution
to measure the temperature of molten aluminum.
Problem
The customer previously used temperature probes but they had a very
short life and in calculating the end-of-year costs of the sacrificial
probes in addition to the frequent down time required to replace the probes
the company's purchasing and engineering departments realized they needed
a cost-effective and technically efficient solution.
OMEGA Solution
OMEGA proposed a customized non-contact infrared system
solution which incorporated a specialized installation technique that allowed
the temperature to be measured via an infrared sensor mounted so that it
"looks" into the open end of a pipe within the molten aluminum
container. The sensor is wired to compatible OMEGA instrument system which
now controls the entire molten aluminum bath.
